Jump Start’s Heavy Equipment Operator Training provides students the practical knowledge and hands-on experience necessary to become qualified to obtain employment in the heavy equipment field at entry level or above. Our customized training, small class sizes and in depth lesson plans provide the most comprehensive learning experience with an emphasis on current industry safety and standards.

After the successful completion of the course, the heavy equipment industry will gain an eligible, professionally trained operator, and you will be that much closer to obtaining a good job and a family sustaining wage in a career you enjoy.

Course Description

This course is designed to introduce and then enhance your knowledge for your new career as an operator in the heavy equipment industry.  Your will learn and understand how to make sound decisions by applying the basic core operating principles used by safe, professional heavy equipment operators every day.

Training will take place on and off the machinery and will increase in difficulty as you advance through the course. Classroom training will cover a number of topics including operator safety, machinery knowledge, utility information and use of our CAT ®excavator simulator for a variety of skills demonstrations. The in-the-seat training portion will cover exercises on various pieces of machinery which will increase in skill level and difficulty and will develop your techniques as the course progresses.

The course experience will form a solid base for a career in heavy equipment operating and provide the knowledge to pass a final skills examination, which will be provided at the end of the course.

Training Facilities

While the theory portion of your training takes place in Jump Start’s climate-controlled classrooms, your practical training is conducted at our 3+ acre heavy equipment range which is located a short driving distance away from the school’s classroom facilities.
